In 2026, Iwenofu was a candidate in the Democratic primary to replace Raychel Proudie, who was term limited and running for state senate. His campaign focused on his opposition to a data center, which was part of a proposed development at the Emerson campus. Ironically, his campaign flyer was obviously generated with an AI-based design tool.
Like his “campaign” against the Emerson development, this flyer is full of false claims. In fact, the proposed project would have had no impact on gas, electric, or water bills. Water consumption on the campus would not be increased by the project, and water there does not come from the water company we use in any case. Electric consumption would also not be affected, as Ameren would not be providing electricity for the data center. And gas bills would also be unaffected, as they would not be purchasing gas through Spire.
One thing was affected though: Iwenofu’s campaign applied sufficient pressure to ensure that the project did not receive council approval. As a result, the city will not receive several million dollars in additional taxes each year, which would have averted a financial crisis.
